No-shows loss in Columbus
March 26, 2022
Borshchev lost to Marc Diakiese via unanimous decision (27-30, 27-30, 27-30) at UFC Fight Night on Saturday in Columbus, Ohio.
Well, there is now zero doubt how every fighter who faces Borshchev moving forward will go about attacking him. He was unable to show off any of his striking skills on a consistent basis because Borshchev spent virtually the entire fight planted on his back. It's shocking to see a Team Alpha Male product struggle to defend a takedown to this extent. You aren't going to win many bouts when your opponent connects on 11 attempts and you spend 12:24 of a 15-minute bout in a positional disadvantage. This performance was so poor that Borshchev finds himself at a crossroads despite the fact he is just two fights into his UFC run and won the first via knockout this past January.
Matched with Marc Diakiese
January 28, 2022
Borshchev will take on Marc Diakiese in Columbus on March 26, Marcel Dorff of Eurosport Nederland reports.
Borshchev had an excellent UFC debut in mid-January, beating Dakota Bush by TKO in under four minutes. He's only fought seven times as a professional but has lost just once. Diakiese, on the other hand, has lost five of his last seven fights, most recently getting submitted by Rafael Alves just 108 seconds into their match in November.
First stoppage win of 2022
January 15, 2022
Borshchev defeated Dakota Bush via TKO (punches) at 3:47 of Round 1 at UFC on ESPN 32 on Saturday in Las Vegas.
Making his UFC debut with all of six professional fights under his belt, Borschev -- who in known as a heavy-handed striker -- ended up recording the first stoppage victory for the company in 2022. The finish was the result of a gorgeous body shot which floored Bush, but perhaps the most impressive aspect of Borshchev's evening was how he worked his way back to his feet after Bush scored an early takedown. Every opponent the newcomer faces is going to do whatever is necessary to get him to the mat in an attempt to limit Borshchev's striking skills, and it's imperative he can survive those situations as he showed in this fight. Keep an eye on the 30-year-old moving forward. For now, he'll walk away with a $50,000 Performance of the Night bonus after recording one of just two finishes on the evening.
First UFC fight set
October 26, 2021
Borshchev will take on Dakota Bush in a lightweight bout at the UFC event Jan. 15, reports.
Borshchev received a UFC contract a couple weeks ago after scoring a finish of Chris Duncan at the Dana White Contender Series. That was his third straight win in 2021. He will take on a fighter in Bush who is coming off a April decision loss to Austin Hubbard.
First of three DWCS contracts
October 13, 2021
Borshchev defeated Chris Duncan via KO (punch) at 0:28 of Round 2 at Dana White's Tuesday Night Contender Series. After the show, he was one of three fighters to earn an official UFC contract.
Borshchev was the more precise striker during a back-and-forth Round 1, as he was landing with more consistency while avoiding the high-volume attack of Duncan. The second frame didn't take long, as Borshchev connected with a mean counter left hand that put his opponent's lights out, effectively cashing his ticket as a (+115) betting underdog. Despite having just six professional fights, Borshchev was able to get one of only three finishes among fighters who made weight, which all but guaranteed him a contract.
